Welcome! We’re excited for new shooters to come out to the Pistol Club.

Dates and Times

The Club is open to new shooters on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.  Please refer to our Calendar of Events for more details.  Doors open at 6:30 PM and orientation begins at 7:00 PM.  There is a mandatory orientation and test, described below.  It is important to be on-time for the orientation as there is only one orientation per evening and late arrivals will not be permitted to write the test or shoot.

Orientation

First time shooters will go through an orientation. Orientation begins at 7:00 PM on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and it is important for new shooters to be on-time for orientation; the Club doors open at 6:30 and the opportunity to shoot is on a first-come-first-serve basis.

The orientation is about 45 minutes and covers how to properly handle the firearms, range safety rules, and range etiquette. This orientation is mandatory for all new shooters to the Wascana Pistol Club, regardless of prior shooting experience.

The orientation covers very important safety information for yourself as well as the others at the range.  While you are attending the orientation the use of cell phones is NOT allowed.  If you are not paying attention, you will not be allowed to write the test.

Test

At the end of the orientation there will be a written test worth 10 marks. You must score at least an 80% (8 out of 10) in order to shoot at the range. The test is not difficult and most people will easily be able to pass it. You must attend the orientation before you can write the test. No challenges are allowed.

After you pass your test and demonstrate that you are a responsible shooter, you will be given a “shooters card” that identifies you by name. This card will contain a red stamp that allows you to shoot rim-fire only. You must keep this card; this card will allow you to come to the club and shoot without attending further orientations.

Minimum Age Restriction

The minimum age allowed to shoot at the club is 12 years old, with parental or guardian supervision.  The child is required to write the same test mentioned above, without assistance from the parent or guardian.

Centre-fire Qualification

In order to shoot centre-fire firearms (such as 9mm, .45 calibre, .38 special, etc) at the club, you will need to qualify. Centre-fire firearms are more powerful than rim-fire firearms. In order to qualify for a blue stamp on your shooter card (this blue stamp allows you to rent and shoot centre-fire at the range) you will need to make 80% of your shots in the rings over 5 standard targets with 10 rounds per target using a .22 calibre handgun.

This means that you must put 8 rounds out of ten in the circles on 5 consecutive targets from the same box of ammunition.  Don’t worry if you don’t get it on the first go. New shooters take a little while to hit that skill.

Use of Cell Phones / Recording Equipment

The use of cell phones during the orientation is prohibited.  You must be paying attention to the orientation in order to write the test.  Recording the orientation is strictly prohibited.  If anyone requires special accommodation, please speak to a Range Officer ahead of time.

We welcome you to the pistol club and hope you enjoy target shooting as much as we do!
